He was elected as the president of the All India Ophthalmic Society, and Executive
Member of the Medical Council of India.
He was also a member of the Medical faculty and Board of studies of the M.G. University
of Kerala.
He has now started his own institution in Aluva town, known as Dr.Tony’s super speciality
Eye Institute and plans to develop into a hospital and training Institute of International
Standard.
He served at Little Flower Hospital as Head of the Ophthalmic Unit and later as
the Medical director, and retired in 2008, after 40 years of service.
He pioneered the starting of all new surgeries in Kerala, like intra-ocular Implantation
Refractive Keratoplasty and Corneal transplantation. The All India Ophthalmic Society
honored him by electing him as the editor of their Journal and later he occupied
the prestigious post of its President.
He is the Founder President of the Kerala Action Force an organization doing yeoman
service.
He has a charitable registered family trust to help charitable work and help very
many organizations who sponsor poor children look after them and educate them.
He is also the founder president of the Cordinated Committee of all Residents Associations,at
Aluva(CORRA) which actively takes up the issues about the traffic problems, waste
disposal, and fights against the pollution problems and consumer protection. This
organization is now very active and tackles a large number of regional problems.

ABOUT HIS FAMILY:

In 1969 he came to Kerala and settled in a small village like Angamaly though he
had plenty of opportunities in big cities. He has now started his own institution
in Aluva town, known as Dr.Tony’s super speciality Eye Institute and plans to develop
into a hospital and training Institute of International Standard.
Married to Dr.Yvonne Fernandez who worked as senior Anesthesiologist with him at
Little Flower Hospital and now working at Tony’s Eye Hospital. She is active in
all the Social activities and runs the STF Charities. She id also working as a honorary
councilor at Muringoor Retreat Centre. They are blessed with 5 children.
1.Dr.Sylvia Mathew M.D.S married to Dr.Silju Mathew .Both are Professors in the
Ramiah Dental College, Bangalore.
2. Dr. Freddy Tony Simon M.D.(AIIMS), DNB.,FRCS (Edin & Glasgow) married to Dr.Cynthia
was the Consultant Surgeon at L.F.Hospital, Angamaly and now Chief Ophthalmic Consutant
and Managing Director of Dr.Tony’s Super Speciality Eye Hospital Aluva.
3.Mrs. Sonia Puthoor, B.Arch. married to Mr.Jeejo Puthoor working as senior consultant
Architect at an International Firm Aecom at Abu Dhabi. Mr.Jeejo is the consultant
in soft wear.
4.Mr.Tony T Simon B.Tech(Computer) married to Mrs. Linnet is now working in a M.N.
Company at U.K. as soft wear consultant.
5.Mrs. Sabeena David M.B.A, married to Mr .Roy David at present a housewife, settled
at Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada. Mr.Roy works for the Government at Edmonton, Canada.

the name “Darsana Eye Bank”, with the help of the Indian Medical Association Madhya
Kerala, Aluva Muncipal Council and the Residents Associations and others Service
organizations. He was the president of the Pain and Palliative Society of Angamaly
and the Vice President of the Consortium of the Pain and Palliative Society of Ernakulam
district.

have collected more than 4000 eyes and nearly 2800 transplantation surgeries successfully

FREE EYE CAMPS:
|
He started the Free Eye Camp work way back in 1971 when such camps were conducted
only by Dr.Mody. The hospital operated on poor patients free of charge on patients
such selected. By the initiative he took these camps are still active and the hospital
has examined nearly 10 lakhs poor patients in the last 4 decades and nearly a lakh
of patients have benefited from various types of surgeries. Eye Bank Association
and Corneal Transplantation Way back in 1970 he started an association with the
help of the public to propagate and collect human eyes for transplantation. It was
the first attempt in a private institution in India to initiate such a move. Now
we are one of the Major Eye Banks in India and have collected more than 4000 eyes
and nearly 2800 transplantation surgeries successfully .undertaken.The Eye Bank
have nearly 175 Donation forums working in the villages and 12 collection centers.
The state Government honored this eye bank for the highest collection of eyes collected
in the state. To increase the facility of Eye Donation he started a new Eye Bank
at Aluva under the name “Darsana Eye Bank”, with the help of the Indian Medical
Association Madhya Kerala, Aluva Muncipal Council and the Residents Associations
and others Service organizations. Kerala Action Force.

KERALA ACTION FORCE:
|
He is the Founder President of the Kerala Action Force an organization doing yeoman
service in the following fields.
1.Training in primary trauma care- nearly 7000 volunteers has been trained by regular
classes.
2.Classes in the schools to give awareness about traffic problems.
3. Conducting Eye Camps and blood donation camps.
4. A list of blood donors is kept for blood donation on trauma patients.
5.Pain and Palliative Clinics. He was the president of the Pain and Palliative Society
of Angamaly and the Vice President of the Consortium of the Pain and Palliative
Society of Ernakulam district.
6. Rehabilitating the physically disabled people due to accident and helping their
children for further studies.
7. Yellow ribbon program counseling, problem children to prevent them from suicide
tendency.
8. Building small houses to very poor people who have no proper dwelling places
with the help of various well wishers and till now 47 houses have been handed over.
This is an on going programme.

treatment and surgeries are undertaken on poor patients selected from the Camps.
